Keeping an eye on: Celtics & Lakers

The Boston Celtics (shoutout to Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum) have won their 18th NBA title, surpassing the Los Angeles Lakers in the championship race. This historic victory ended the tie that existed between these two legendary franchises. Meanwhile, the Lakers made history by winning the very first season tournament. LeBron James, defying time once again, was named the tournament's MVP after leading his team to victory against the Indiana Pacers.

And what’s happening in the East?

It seems there’s some elbowing going on among teams like the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers, both of whom have significantly strengthened their game. The Knicks, with a starting five of Josh Hart, OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, Jalen Brunson, and Karl-Anthony Towns, are aiming for the top. The 76ers, on the other hand, hope to reach their first conference final since 2001 with the addition of Paul George to support Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

The West, more competitive than ever

Now, let’s look at the West. We hear that the NBA Western Conference will once again be competitive, with nearly every team in the playoff hunt. Here are some interesting facts:

  • The Denver Nuggets, led by three-time MVP Nikola Jokić, remain among the favorites;
  • The Dallas Mavericks, last year's finalists, still rely on the duo of Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving;
  • The Oklahoma City Thunder hope to build on their strong season with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the MVP race and Luguentz Dort providing support;
  • The Minnesota Timberwolves, bolstered by Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert, and the arrival of Julius Randle, are also worth watching;
  • Lastly, the San Antonio Spurs will be a team to keep an eye on, featuring rookie Victor Wembanyama and veteran Chris Paul.

Toronto Raptors: a promising rebuild

The Toronto Raptors are in a rebuilding phase but have a core of young talent with Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett, and Immanuel Quickley that could be fun to watch with a pint in hand. With veteran Chris Boucher, they aim to maximize their fast play and ball movement. If their young players progress well and stay in top shape, they could surprise us this season.

Quebec players to keep on your radar

The presence of Quebec players in the NBA continues to grow, and we’re excited about it! Here’s what you need to remember:

  • Luguentz Dort of the Oklahoma City Thunder is a key player known for his tenacious defense;
  • Bennedict Mathurin of the Indiana Pacers is considered one of the league’s most promising players;
  • Chris Boucher of the Toronto Raptors is a versatile veteran capable of scoring and protecting the rim with his defensive skills.

 Whether it’s before, during, or after the game, it’s always more enjoyable to watch a basketball game with friends at your favorite Cage. We’re here, no matter the day of the week.
